Tuesday October 27th brought deep, dark, and creepy tunes to Tunicliff Auditorium. Clad in a giant iPhone costume, Mr. Forsleff, the highly dedicated string teacher for all four Flushing elementary schools, along with Flushing Middle School and Flushing High School, led his groups of students costumed from giant cardboard robots to princesses to vampires in their annual Decomposers Festival.

The Flushing Middle School Orchestra opened with “Creatures”, a deep-toned, beautiful piece, then later excited kids of the crowd with the theme music of “Batman”.

Later, the Flushing High School string students surprised the auditorium with a mash-up skit set to music, highlighting some of the most creative costumes by the students. The students jumped right from funny into beautiful pieces, their most moving being “October”, then later took breaks in between for a poem read by Chloe Peter, and jokes from Josh Jaggers and Mr. Forsleff that left the crowd smiling (or groaning) for the rest of the night.

Forsleff also commented that he was “proud of the strong upperclassmen in orchestra,” as he explained that the juniors and seniors of the group lead and take charge in all of the right moments. Mr. Forsleff commended Aaron Degner, Alex Hilton-Watson, Rachel Erhart, Josh Jaggers, and Kailey Fontan on their hard work throughout their years of orchestra.

String season for both of the schools look promising and exciting, and students and Mr. Forsleff alike anticipate what’s next to come!
