The Blazer, Flushing High School’s bimonthly student-run newspaper, will be holding their annual bowling FUNdraiser from November 9, 2015 to November 14, 2015, 3 PM – 9 PM at the newly renovated Flushing Lanes. Just $10 will get you bowling shoes and two hours of bowling, and an additional one dollar will be donated to The Blazer for every food sale made during the time period.

“Fundraisers are exactly what they are. And it’s a good one, and it’s a worthy cause,” said Mr. Jon Lindhurst, General Manager of Flushing Lanes. “Any time you get a chance to help people – to help people smile, or to contribute to whatever endeavour you’re after – it’s beneficial. So, why would you not want to help? My philosophy is that if you can help and have fun at the same time, help!”

The Blazer plans on using any and all profits earned during the night to help pay for the printing costs of the second issue of their 65th volume and to help keep the magazine free for the community to take.

All funds will be used to keep the magazine printed and to keep it free.”

“All contributions will help pay for the printing of future issues,” said Ms. Chloe Peter, Editor-in-Chief of The Blazer. “We are a self sustaining publication, and without advertisements, donations, and fundraisers like the one this week, we would be unable to distribute The Blazer for free.”

Because the event takes place over the course of a week rather than in just a few short hours of a single night as it did last year and is located more centrally on East Main Street, the team is hoping that they will be able to attract lots of community members out to have a good time with their family and friends.

“This FUNdraiser is an amazing opportunity for us here at The Blazer,” said Ms. Peter. “Not only do we expect to raise quite a bit of money, but it’s a great chance to connect with the community.”
